Job Description and Duties

These services are available 24/7 and are constantly improving, freeing up California’s entrepreneurs to focus on their business endeavors while the SOS handles the paperwork. The California Secretary of State’s Business Programs Division is recruiting to fill multiple permanent, full-time Program Technician III position(s). We are seeking dependable, innovative, and talented individuals ready to grow through professional development while bringing their unique expertise to our team. This role offers a unique blend of office operations and statewide adventure. While participation is not required, interested employees may have the opportunity to travel throughout the state to staff our California Secretary of State Pop-Up Shop events. These volunteer-based events allow our team to provide essential in-person services to Californians while building vital skills like adaptability and multicultural awareness.
- Corporation, limited liability company and partnership registration, change, and termination filings.
- Trademark and service mark registration and change filings.
- Uniform Commercial Code financing statements and notices of tax liens and change filings.
- Maintenance of the Advance Health Care Directive Registry, Domestic Partners Registry, and Immigration Consultants Registrations.
- Oversee notary commissions within California, as well as authenticating the signatures of California public officials and notaries public.
- Additionally, we provide customer service to our customers via online, phone, email, and in person and provide records of our filings online. Visit our bizfile California portal for more information about our filings, various searches, and additional resources.
- Review and examine the most difficult documents, filings, requests, and supporting documentation for viability and compliance with legal requirements.
- Research, analyze, interpret, and apply laws relating to various forms/documents.
- Advise customers, both orally and by written correspondence, as to form/document deficiencies.
- Interact professionally with the public at the public counter, by telephone, or email regarding routine inquiries, filing requirements, documents, and fees.
- Respond, both orally and in writing, to the most difficult and/or sensitive technical inquiries and to inquiries as they relate to forms/documents processed.
- Discuss and assist customers with regards to requirements, related laws, and recommended appropriate actions.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Act as an expert resource responsible for the most sensitive and difficult Program Technician work processes.

Department Information
Located in downtown Sacramento, the SOS building is within walking distance to a variety of eateries and amenities. Light Rail, State Capitol, Downtown Commons (DOCO), and Golden 1 Center, just to name a few. Conveniently located in the SOS building, the Gold Rush Grille offers delicious daily specials for breakfast or lunch and is open to the public. Our on-site childcare incorporates programs for children six weeks to five years old. Priority waitlist access and special discounted rates are available for SOS employees.

Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary wage reductions in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) accruals. The specific rate and hours earned were negotiated and agreed upon by each bargaining unit. The salary range(s) included in this job advertisement do not reflect the temporary salary reduction.
Special Requirements
