Job Description and Duties
Are you our next safety engineer? The Division of Regional Assistance is searching for an Associate Safety Engineer that enjoys interacting with a diverse workforce and will help us safely perform our duties and go home at the end of the day. You will be traveling across the state to Division offices in Red Bluff, Sacramento, Fresno, Glendale and many places in between. You will provide safety engineering support at project sites and State facilities. You may be on a boat traversing CA waterways one day and in a car traveling through urban and remote landscapes another. You will be the Division’s safety leader that will help us continue to build a strong safety system and culture.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature. We manage California’s water resources, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

Special Requirements
This position requires the possession of a valid State of California driver's license, operation of a motor vehicle on public and private roadways, sometimes over rough, uneven and unmaintained roadways and paths; travel by boat and commercial airlines; and travel to remote locations on overnight and sometimes longer trips.

Desirable Qualifications
The applicant must exercise competent independent judgment; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; work cooperatively with others, including DWR staff, contractors, and the public; and maintain consistent and regular attendance. This position also requires the applicant to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, recommend, and implement controls for environmental and physical hazards that can affect the health and safety of workers. The position also requires strong communication skills, including leading the Division’s safety subcommittee meetings, presenting safety information to audiences, and providing training to staff.
