The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Supervising Program Technician III with experience providing guidance and interpretation of various laws, rules, and regulations while effectively communicating (oral/written) and demonstrating good judgment when interacting with the public and staff in a professional manner.

Under the general direction of the Supervisor I of the Licensing Processing Section (LPS), the Supervising Program Technician III (SPT III) is responsible for supervising Program Technician IIs and IIIs to ensure that proper procedures, rules, and regulations are followed when staff are processing license applications, renewals, and other licensing documents for several license qualification types. The SPT III is also responsible for monitoring the Licensing Hotline and production email queues. They may also respond to licensing inquiries by telephone, chat, and email, and respond to escalated inquiries. The SPT III also assists with the interpretation of the rules and regulations of the California Insurance Code and California Code of Regulations, as well as, providing technical assistance to staff.
Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. Working Conditions
- Must be able to work in a high-rise building.
- Eligible for telework in accordance with CDIs telework policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed; however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.

Desirable Qualifications
- Typing certificate with a typing speed of 50 WPM or better.
- Experience providing guidance and interpretation of various laws, rules, and regulations.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate (oral/written) and demonstrate good judgment when interacting with the public and staff in a professional manner.
- Excellent analytical and research skills; must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities/projects; possess excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and to quickly adapt to changing priorities in order to meet deadlines.
- Candidate must have a strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, adobe, and Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to supervise team, assigning and logging work on daily basis, and be able to meet departmental deadlines as well as individual deadlines.
- Ability to recognize and intervene with staff members when corrective action is needed.
- Ability to be a self-starter that contributes to a positive work environment daily.
- Ability to act as manger when the manager is unavailable to respond to departmental requests.
- Maintains an open-door policy for staff to ask questions and ensures a professional and courteous work atmosphere.
- Call center experience preferred but not required.
