Under supervision of the Assistant Director, Human Resources (C.E.A.), the Office Technician (Typing) performs a variety of clerical and administrative support duties for the Human Resources Office and serves as the primary point of contact for the HR front desk. The position provides support to multiple HR units, including Health & Safety, Payroll and Benefits, Employee Performance, and Classification, Hiring, and Recruitment.
Responsibilities include answering the HR main phone line, assisting employees, applicants, and visitors, responding to or routing inquiries, preparing correspondence, maintaining the HR email inbox, and processing incoming HR documents. The incumbent logs and tracks performance evaluations, uploads payroll and personnel documents, maintains official personnel records, schedules interviews and meetings, coordinates travel, and supports document processing, filing, and records management.
The Office Technician uses a variety of computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign, Workday and Lotus Notes, to complete daily assignments. Additional duties include processing verification of employment and appointment check requests, coordinating Official Personnel File (OPF) reviews, routing contract invoices for approval and payment, maintaining office supplies and equipment, and ensuring compliance with confidentiality and document security requirements.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, customer focused, and able to manage multiple priorities while providing professional administrative support in a fast-paced Human Resources environment.

This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.

You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Training and Development (T&D): T&D assignments are temporary assignments to provide an employee training and experience to move to a different occupational field. A T&D assignment is a formal agreement between the employee, the current supervisor, and the new supervisor. The duration of agreements can vary in length but shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.
The duration may also be the length of experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications. Please note they are only available to current California State employees who have permanent status.
