This position is located in Nevada City, CA.

Taking and passing an examination for a specific classification grants you list eligibility for that classification only. Establishing eligibility for a “higher level” classification does not establish eligibility in the “lower level” classifications in the same series. Working Conditions
The incumbent typically is required to perform psychologically stressful and/or physically demanding duties consistent with firefighting, disaster response, and emergency medical response, including working in isolated areas, walking or running on uneven, rough terrain, and remaining on duty 24 hours or longer without a break while performing these duties.
Maybe be subject to working nights, weekends, or holidays in support of emergency incidents.

Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) a(n) Registered Professional Forester License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
Must complete all training as required by the department, including successful completion of CAL FIRE Fire Fighter Academy (FFA) and Company Officer Academy (COA) training during the probationary period as a condition of employment.
The incumbent is required to wear respiratory protection equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). The use of such equipment may place a physiological burden on the incumbent that varies with the type of equipment used, the job and workplace conditions in which the equipment in which the equipment is used, and the medical status of the incumbent. As such, Cal/OSHA requires that the incumbent be annually medically cleared to be fit-tested for respiratory protection equipment. This clearance process consists of a comprehensive medical evaluation including a review of the incumbent’s medical history, a complete physical examination, and vision, hearing, spirometry, and exercise treadmill tests.
Maintains the Arduous Fitness Standard in accordance with department policy.
Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete Peace Officer Status Training (POST) certification and maintain status as a Department Peace Officer as a condition of employment. Candidates that do not currently possess peace officer certifications/qualifications may still be eligible for appointment and are encouraged to apply and compete in the selection process. However, failure to obtain status after appointment will precipitate an inability to successfully perform essential functions of the position and may result in progressive discipline.

Desirable Qualifications
Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Candidates that have a thorough knowledge of forest management principles and practices, forest protection and fire prevention, timber inventory methods, appraisal of forest lands and timber management plans, forest products harvesting and sales, forest mensuration principles and practices, timber stand improvement, the fundamentals of land surveying, and forest ecology are preferred. Additionally, thorough knowledge of the Forest Practice Act, Board Rules, Administrative Procedures Act, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), other state and federal environmental, forest, and fire laws will contribute to a candidate's success in the position.
Benefits
This classification is eligible for the following pay:
$9428 - $12226 Base Salary (paid every month)
$1851 Recruitment and Retention Differential (paid every month)
$135,348 – $168,924 Annual Compensation
In addition to the above pay items, employees are eligible for medical benefits (health, dental, vision) and may be eligible for other pay differentials.
