Under the direction of a Telecommunications Systems Operations Supervisor II (TSOS II), the Telecommunications Systems Operations Supervisor I (TSOS I) supervises and coordinates the work activities of technical staff responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting critical Public Safety Communications (PSC) systems and infrastructure. The incumbent provides leadership and technical oversight for services supporting state and local public safety agencies, including the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), California Highway Patrol (CHP), California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), California Department of Water Resources (DWR), California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), and California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). Duties are performed in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations and require the application of advanced telecommunications knowledge, office-provided training, complex electronic test equipment, computer systems, hand tools, the Telecommunications Division Manual (TDM), and technical publications.
The TSOS I ensures the reliability, availability, and operational readiness of mission-critical communications systems through effective personnel management, resource coordination, quality assurance, customer service, and adherence to established safety and operational procedures, thereby supporting the continuous delivery of public safety communications services throughout California.
