Job Description and Duties
This position supports the CDPH’s mission and strategic plan by performing a variety of skilled work in the operations, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, ventilation, lighting, power, water treatment, and other mechanical systems in support of the CDPH, Richmond Campus. The Stationary Engineer may instruct and/or lead other Stationary Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics, Building Maintenance Workers, and Service Assistants. In addition, this position may direct contractors in support of the infrastructure and equipment repairs.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Chief Engineer II.
Stationary Engineers are provided with uniforms and free laundering.
Alternate work schedules may be available.
Special Requirements:
- Medical Clearance
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification
The following pay differentials are applicable to the positions:
- Pay Differential 85 Night Shift: This recruitment is for multiple positions with varying shifts. Shifts required to work 4 or more hours between 6pm and 12am are entitled evening pay (an extra $1/hour). Shifts required to work 4 or more hours between 10pm and 6am are entitled to night shift pay (an extra $2/hour).
- Pay Differential 409 Greater Bay Area Recruitment and Retention: provides 5% above the base rate for each qualifying pay period
- Pay Differential 435 EPA Section 608 Technician Certification: $100/month for the required certification

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.
Post & Bid: This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.
