Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Office Chief of Mobility and System Performance, a Supervising Transportation Engineer (Manager), the incumbent, a Senior Transportation Engineer (Supervisor), serves as the branch chief and functional manager of the Mobility Strategies Branch.
Activities focus on providing statewide leadership, coordination, and strategic direction for multimodal mobility programs within Headquarters Traffic Operations, including Managed Lanes, Ramp Metering, Mobility Hub, Freight, Transit, and Active Transportation. The incumbent leads the development, interpretation, and implementation of statewide policies, standards, guidance, operational strategies, and performance management tools that support an integrated, safe, and efficient transportation system.
As the Branch Chief, the incumbent oversees branch program delivery, staff supervision, resource management, workload planning, and collaboration with Caltrans districts, state and federal partners, regional agencies, and external stakeholders. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring consistent statewide implementation of multimodal mobility strategies and advancing department goals related to safety, congestion relief, sustainability, equity, and system performance.
