Job Description and Duties
Under general direction of the Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer serves as a key technical leader supporting California's Senate Bill (SB 1) transportation improvement program, which funds critical projects that enhance highways, roads, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure throughout the state. In this role, you will help develop and improve the processes, guidance, standards, and tools that support the successful delivery of SB 1-funded projects, while providing engineering expertise to solve complex transportation challenges. Working closely with Caltrans districts, partner agencies, and stakeholders statewide, you will provide technical guidance, support performance measurement efforts, and help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, consistently, and in accordance with program requirements. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence statewide transportation investments, improve project delivery practices, and advance Caltrans' commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
