Job Description and Duties

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.

Are you ready to lead at a senior level, set direction for a major operational area, and help shape the future of driver licensing services? The Driver Licensing Branch is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee Area II, which includes the Financial Responsibility Insurance Unit, Mandatory Actions Unit, and Controls Team. These programs support critical driver accountability functions and play an important role in maintaining accurate driver licensing records, meeting service expectations, and advancing the department’s commitment to public safety. This position requires a leader who can move beyond day-to-day task management to establish priorities, guide subordinate managers, and align operational efforts with branch and departmental goals. The successful candidate will be expected to exercise sound judgment, communicate clearly, lead through change, and take ownership of sensitive or high-impact matters. Area II is also positioned to support ongoing process improvement and modernization efforts, including the transition of paper-based processes to more efficient digital solutions. This is an opportunity for a leader who is prepared to strengthen operational performance, develop management capacity, and help shape the future direction of a large and complex Driver Licensing Branch program area. If you are motivated by public service, operational excellence, accountability, and meaningful change, we encourage you to apply.

All eligible applicants may apply. A training and development assignment may be considered. SROA/Surplus candidates are encouraged to apply.
