Job Description and Duties

HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC – CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT/SAN JOAQUIN SECTOR / MILLERTON STATE RECREATION AREA

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.


The reporting location for this position is Millerton in Friant, CA. This position will work under the direction of Park Maintenance Chief I.

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) will construct, repair, test and maintain automotive and heavy maintenance and construction equipment. Prepare schedule for
replacement and warranty work. Inspect equipment to locate and determine the extent of repairs and the corrective action necessary. Operates and delivers equipment to repair shops. Construct new special equipment or modify existing equipment including body frames and running gear. Advise in the selection of parts/equipment, estimates repair costs, performs minor welding and brazing work. The HEM will apply methods, materials, tools and equipment used in construction, assembly, overhaul, repair and adjustment of gas- and diesel-powered trucks, heavy construction, operation and maintenance of equipment in compliance with safety regulations and practices. Fabricate, repair and adjust various equipment and systems.

This position works primarily at the Millerton Lake SRA Auto Shop and will be expected to report to other locations in the Central Valley district for recovery and maintenance/repair of vehicles/equipment not assigned to Millerton Lake SRA San Joaquin Sector.


Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Possession of a valid Class A driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to appointment.

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR)
599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.
