Job Description and Duties
FORESTRY AIDE – DIABLO RANGE DISTRICT / MOUNT DIABLO STATE PARK

The Forestry Aide reporting location is the Contra Costa/Solano Sector Office, located at 96 Mitchell Canyon Rd., Clayton, CA 94517. The Forestry Aide (FA) works under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor or designated project lead as an essential part of the Diablo Range District Natural Resource Team.
The Forestry Aide is an entry-level position involved in natural resource management and wildfire resilience activities within Mount Diablo State Park and other park units in the Diablo Range District. Duties may include manual fuel reduction, prescribed fire support, invasive species management, habitat restoration, biological monitoring, and collection of field data using GPS and GIS applications. The position works outdoors under adverse weather conditions, hikes over uneven and steep terrain, and carries heavy equipment.Typical work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. This position may also work overtime, weekends, holidays, irregular shifts, and work and/or camp in remote locations based on program or project needs. While the reporting location and the majority of work will occur at Mount Diablo State Park, the Forestry Aide may also work in other California State Parks within the Diablo Range District as assigned. This is an excellent opportunity to work outdoors and gain hands-on experience in wildfire resilience, prescribed fire, and natural resource management with California State Parks.
This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.
