Job Description and Duties

HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC (PERMANENT FULL-TIME) / DIABLO RANGE DISTRICT / HOLLISTER HILLS SECTOR / HOLLISTER HILLS STATE VEHICULAR RECREATION AREA

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The working schedule is Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM.

The reporting location for this position is Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) Maintenance Office at 7800 Cienega Road, Hollister, CA. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory).

The Diablo Range District is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) who will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the Mobile Equipment Fleet assigned to Hollister Hills SVRA. This position may be required to assist with Heavy Equipment Mechanic functions as needed throughout the District. This position will keep maintenance and repair records of the Mobile Equipment Fleet for Hollister Hills SVRA. This position may act as lead person when working with Mechanics Helpers, Laborers, Senior Maintenance Aides, Maintenance Aides or any other staff members assigned to assist with HEM related duties. This is a uniformed position, and the uniform shall be worn according to State Parks' Policy.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.


Employees who work to support State Vehicle Recreation Areas (SVRA) utilize the OHV Trust Fund and are responsible for appropriate use of the fund and to help ensure program transparency, accountability, and compliance (TAC) goals are met.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.
