SENIOR PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – ANGELES DISTRICT / LOS ANGELES SECTOR / TOPANGA STATE PARK
“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”
The reporting location for this position is Trippet Ranch Nature Center at Topanga State Park. This position will be under the supervision of the Program Manager of Interpretation and Education, Interpreter III and the Interpreter I.
The purpose of interpretation is to enrich people’s lives through meaningful experiences and enjoyable recreation; preserve and protect natural and cultural resources through broad collaboration and shared stewardship; and inspire social and environmental consciousness to build community and sustain the health of the planet.
Primary responsibilities include assisting the State Park Interpreter I at the Trippet Ranch Nature Center by staffing an information desk, providing excellent customer service where they will be responsible for answering general questions, phone calls, and emails. In addition, the incumbent will support public programming that includes interpretive tours of the park, delivering traditional interpretive programs such as Junior Rangers Campfire programs, providing support to field trips and conducting virtual programs.
The Senior Park Aide will work with volunteers and interns to provide high quality experiences. This role functions within a team setting to support visitor experiences and interpretive opportunities. The reporting location for this position is Topanga State Park but the incumbent will also be expected to work at other park units within the Topanga Sector, such as Will Rogers State Historic Park. Support at other locations throughout the District may be required, such as Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook.
The Senior Park Aide will be required to work Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 8:45am-5:15pm and holidays, and at odd or irregular hours. The purchase and wearing of a State Park uniform is a requirement. Driving a State vehicle to accomplish the duties of this position may be required.
This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
