PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) – ANGELES DISTRICT / DISTRICTWIDE / MALIBU CREEK STATE PARK
“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”
The reporting location for this position is Malibu Creek State Park and is expected to report to other locations as needed. This position will work under the supervision of the District Program Manager of Interpretation and Education, State Park Interpreter III and the State Park Interpreter I lead.
The purpose of interpretation is to enrich people’s lives through meaningful experiences and enjoyable recreation; preserve and protect natural and cultural resources through broad collaboration and shared stewardship; and inspire social and environmental consciousness to build community and sustain the health of the planet.
Primary responsibilities include conducting curriculum-based programming through virtual and in-person experiences and development of specific activities for these programs with support from the Interpreter I. Implementation of public programming including interpretive tours of the park for the public, and support of contact stations where they will be responsible for answering general questions, phone calls, and emails. Monitor special events and oversee day to day operations of volunteers and interns. The incumbent will also coordinate with local community groups and partner universities in joint projects and may assist with program development. Incumbents are expected to work out of multiple sites to enhance their interpretive skills.
Park Interpretive Specialists will carry out interpretive assignments of limited complexity that involve the application of general program knowledge and the fundamental principles, concepts, and methods of interpretation. Work at this level also involves developmental assignments and some limited responsibility for initiating, developing, and/or modifying work methods.
The reporting location for this position is Malibu Creek State Park but work at other park units throughout the district will be required. Driving personal vehicle between park units will be necessary however the incumbent will receive mileage reimbursement.
Thursday through Sunday availibility required. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
