Job Description and Duties

STATE PARK INTERPRETER I (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) / DIABLO RANGE DISTRICT / SECTOR / SAN JUAN BAUTISTA STATE HISTORIC PARK (SHP)

The reporting location is San Juan Bautista SHP, 19 Franklin St. San Juan Bautista CA.

Under the direction of the State Park Interpreter III, the State Park Interpreter I supports the planning, development, and delivery of interpretive programs and projects for multiple park units within the Diablo Range District. The position provides interpretive and educational programs, coordinates volunteers, and conducts outreach at park sites, schools, community events, and meetings.

This is a field-based position that requires regular travel between park units and off-site locations. Duties are performed primarily outdoors and may involve the use of interpretive materials and equipment in program delivery. This position is not telework eligible. Regular travel between park units and off-site locations is required to meet program delivery and operational needs.

Diablo Range District, Gavilan/Hollister Sector is hiring a State Park Interpreter I (PI) to join the interpretive team to help develop, coordinate, publicize and present high quality interpretive programs, publications, exhibits, and projects for the Gavilan units including Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area, San Juan Bautista SHP, Fremont Peak State Park (SP), and Henry Coe SP. This position is responsible for coordinating efforts and activities that effectively communicate the importance of environmental stewardship, appreciation for historic and cultural resources and responsible recreation.


Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.


The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position may work up to 1500 hours in any calendar year.
