Job Description and Duties

PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – NORTHERN BUTTES DISTRICT / WILLIAM B IDE ADOBE STATE HISTORIC PARK

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

The reporting location for this position is William B Ide Adobe State Historic Park located at 21659 Adobe Road, Red Bluff, CA 96080. This position will work under the supervision of the State Park Interpreter III, and under the direction of the State Park Interpreter I.

The Park Aide is expected to work weekends, holidays, and evenings if necessary and assigned days off may vary from month to month. The normal work hours are 8-hour shifts occurring between the hours of 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, up to five days per week including weekends, holidays and during special events. This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible. This is position wears a uniform, and the successful candidates will be required to purchase and wear a State Parks uniform.


The Park Aide has primary responsibility for the following duties: greets visitors, answers questions regarding the history and places to visit at the park, provides orientation and tours for school groups, collects fees, and sells gift shop items. The Park Aide will assist in the set-up, presentation and clean-up of interpretive programs, presenting tours of the homestead to the public, collect fees, perform various housekeeping and grounds-keeping activities, provide record keeping and work on special projects as assigned. This position will also assist with the coordination of education programs for K-12 students, volunteer training and presentation at special events.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
