Job Description and Duties
PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT / RIVERS SECTOR / GEORGE J. HATFIELD STATE RECREATION AREA
“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”
The work reporting location is George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area and may also be assigned to work at McConnell State Recreation Area. The Park Aide works under the supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor and may be assigned to take direction from the lead State Park Peace Officer and/or Senior Park Aide. The Park Aide may also occasionally be assigned to work in other park units in the sector.
The Park Aide will be responsible for assisting with the operation of the visitor programs at George J. Hatfield SRA and McConnell SRA. The Park Aide performs front line park operation work including opening/closing the park facilities, operating the park kiosk, answering questions, providing information to the public, assisting interpretive staff with educational and interpretive programs, keeping facilities clean and orderly, and completing assigned projects. The Park Aide also answers questions on rules, regulations, and facilities for the public and other related work.
The Park Aide must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and visitors, perform arithmetic, and prepare both written and computer-generated documents, perform both vehicle and foot patrols in and around campgrounds and trails, work nights and weekends, perform housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, sweeping and dusting and lift at least 25 pounds. Driving a State vehicle in accomplishing the following tasks may be required. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The purchase and wearing of a State Park uniform will be required. State Park grooming standards must be met.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
