STATE PARK PEACE OFFICER SUPERVISOR (RANGER) – GOLD FIELDS DISTRICT / AUBURN SECTOR / AUBURN STATE RECREATION AREA
The reporting location for this position is Auburn State Recreation Area in Auburn, CA. This position will work under the general supervision of the State Park Superintendent II.
The SPPO Supervisor Ranger position responsibilities are to provide response in emergency/law enforcement situations, provide public assistance to park visitors as needed and supervise the Auburn State Recreation Area Visitor Services/Aquatics Programs. The incumbent will also supervise accident scenes as appropriate, render first aid and ensure that injured parties are treated in accordance with Department policy and protocols. The duties will also require the incumbent to provide direction to State Park Peace Officers during rescues, citations and arrests and will also be the direct supervisory liaison for various community organizations, associations and volunteer groups. The incumbent will participate in the preparation of monthly and daily work schedules; evaluate subordinates; assist with career planning, training requests and other personnel matters as requested.
State Park Peace Officer Supervisor (Ranger)(K9 Handler) will also be considered for recruitment purposes.
In order to be eligible for this position, candidates must have a minimum of two years’ experience as a DPR State Park Peace Officer (Ranger/Lifeguard).
The incumbent will be expected to complete the annual POST canine team evaluation. Interested Canine and non-Canine Handlers should both apply at this time. A supplemental application process will be required for all non-Canine Handler applicants. Candidates that will be eligible for selection to the Canine Program by the final filing date are encouraged to apply. The incumbent will be expected to maintain canine certification and training.

Appointment to the Canine position to be based on an interview, physical fitness and skills assessment, not seniority. Skills testing may involve proficiency evaluation or scenarios involving firearms, defensive tactics and first aid.
Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.
This position is designated as not telework eligible.
