SENIOR PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – SAN LUIS OBISPO COAST DISTRICT / MORRO BAY MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Morro Bay State Park is seeking a Senior Park Aide to staff the Morro Bay Museum of Natural History. The reporting location is 20 State Park Rd, Morro Bay, CA 93442.

The Morro Bay Museum of Natural History is the only Natural History Museum in the California State Park system, making this a truly unique experience. The museum sits on a hill overlooking the beautiful Morro Bay estuary. Other work locations include Montaña de Oro State Park, which is renowned for its spectacular scenery.

Senior Park Aide leads seasonal Park Aides in museum operations; prepares routine reports and accounting documents for fees collected; checks park facilities and reports problems to maintenance; handles minor visitor complaints; explains park policies and regulations to the visiting public; answers routine questions from the public; coordinates occasional housekeeping activities; may give instruction in the safe and proper use of housekeeping supplies; inspects completed work for quality control and conformance to established standards, and trains lower-level seasonal employees. This position will be required to assist with the operations at the Spooner Ranch House in Montaña de Oro State Park. Additional duties are assigned as needed.

This is a seasonal position. The position works varied shifts (20-32 hours per week). Must be able to work a flexible schedule, holidays, and weekends. Wednesday – Saturday availability is preferred. This position will be responsible for complying with the department's uniform standards and as an employee of California State Parks, the incumbent shall adhere to the department performance standards. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn about, the natural, cultural, and recreational history of Morro Bay State Park and Montaña de Oro State Park. Enjoy working with the public and possess the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of visitors. Ability to communicate timely with other park staff. Ability to use a cash register. Basic math skills are required. Able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 pounds.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
