Job Description and Duties

PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) – CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT / RIVERS SECTOR / DOS RIOS

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

This position works under the supervision of the Senior Park and Recreation Specialist with guidance and support from the Dos Rios Interpretive staff. The reporting location is Dos Rios (a proposed State Park), with work locations throughout the Sector.

The Park Interpretive Specialist (Seasonal) will conduct interpretive and educational outreach, including nature walks and roving, staff the welcome center, participate in special events, assist with school programing, volunteer support, Junior Ranger activities and campfire programs; perform routine public contact work; answer questions on rules and regulations and facilities for the public; assist in maintaining interpretive collections; and do other related work as assigned. Required work schedule includes weekdays, weekends and holidays typically between the hours of 6AM and 6PM, and may include odd or irregular hours. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The purchase and wearing of a State Park uniform will be required. State Park grooming standards must be met. Driving a State vehicle in accomplishing the following tasks may be required.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
