***This is a Peace Officer Position. To be eligible, you must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department of Human Resources AND either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer.
If you are not a current peace officer and in possession of a POST – Academy, Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate, you are not eligible for this position.

STATE PARK PEACE OFFICER SUPERVISOR (RANGER) – SANTA CRUZ DISTRICT / PAJARO COAST SECTOR / SEACLIFF STATE BEACH
The reporting location for this position is Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, CA. This position will work under the general supervision of State Park Superintendent II.
The Supervising State Park Peace Officer (Ranger) directly supervises State Park Peace Officer (Ranger) positions, Senior Park Aide positions, an Analyst I, and Seasonal Interpretive Specialists. The Night Shift Supervising State Park Peace Office (Ranger) is responsible to know the Visitor Services Programs District-wide, act as a shift supervisor and District-wide Supervisor in the absence of other supervisors. The Supervising State Park Peace Office (Ranger) additionally supervises a permanent lifeguard and on-duty seasonal lifeguards in the absence of the Lifeguard Supervisor. When so designated, the Supervising State Park Peace Office (Ranger) will act for Superintendents in his/her absence. Areas of supervision include the Pajaro Coast and rest of the District in the absence of other area Supervision. The Supervising State Park Peace Office (Ranger) may be reassigned to other District Sectors based on operational needs.
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to appointment.
Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.
This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs, or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.
