Job Description and Duties

PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I / SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / SILVER STRAND STATE BEACH / SOUTH SECTOR

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The reporting location for this position is the Silver Strand State Beach maintenance shop. This position will work under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor
The incumbent will be a lead person and will be responsible to lead crews in accomplishing the maintenance and housekeeping tasks at Silver Strand State Beach, Border Field State Park and the Tijuana Estuary Reserve. We are looking for a person with a good attitude and a desire to protect natural resources. This is a rare and beautiful part of Coronado Island that we have the pleasure to be stewards of. Leadership and organizational skills are needed, as well as skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, purchasing, and the Departments Maximo program are highly desirable.
The work schedule for this position is Sunday thru Wednesday from 6:00am-4:30pm.

Training and development assignments may be considered.
This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

This is a uniformed position, and the employee must comply with all applicable Departmental uniform and grooming standards.

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
