Job Description and Duties

SENIOR PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – NORTH COAST REDWOODS DISTRICT / REDWOOD COAST SECTOR

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

The Senior Park Aide reporting location is the Redwood National and State Park Headquarters office at 1111 2nd Street Crescent City, CA 95531 and may include duties within and adjacent to parks around the North Coast Redwoods District including Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Tolowa Dunes State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwood State Park, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and Redwood National and State Park.

The (Interpretive) Senior Park Aide (SPA) is a summer position working 4-5 months over the summer season. The position will be supervised by the District Interpretive Program Manager (Interpreter III) and will work under the lead of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park Interpreter I. SPAs helps safeguard California State Parks by communicating to the public the complex stories of the redwood forest and the environments which have shaped human life and culture on the North Coast. The SPA will work closely with interpretive staff to provide educational opportunities and experiences for our visitors, partners, local schools, and volunteers.

Senior Park Aides must be able to work independently; follow instructions; use supplies and equipment required and provided by the job. If hired, Senior Park Aides must be willing to purchase and wear a uniform.

This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
