Job Description and Duties

PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – MONTEREY DISTRICT / BIG SUR SECTOR

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

The reporting location is the Big Sur sector (Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park / Andrew Molera State Park). This position will work under the direction of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor.

Visitor Services Park Aides staff the campground entrance stations and interact with the public. They sell day-use tickets, register campers, operate the computer reservation system, explain rules and regulations, and answer a wide variety of questions from the public. Park Aides are the first people the public see when entering a State Park. You must be prepared to represent State Parks in a positive way. Applicants must be willing to purchase and wear a uniform and conform to minimal grooming standards. Enthusiasm for the mission of State Parks and an appreciation of our natural and cultural heritage are a definite plus. These are great positions for anyone interested in a career in Parks!

Training is provided. You must be willing to work a day shift or swing shift, weekends, and holidays. A 40 hour work week is normal. Interviews will be held at Big Sur Station in Big Sur, CA. Phone interviews are available for those living over 100 miles away. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

State housing may be required. Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements after the state housing may be required as requested by HR.
