Job Description and Duties
PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) - MONTEREY DISTRICT - BIG SUR SECTOR
The Park Maintenance Worker I (PMW I) will work under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Cheif I. The PMW I will be involved with all aspects of the Big Sur sector facility maintenance program with primary focus on water treatment, water distribution, and wastewater operations. This position will work directly with the Big Sur sector Water and Sewage Plant Supervisors and will support operations of the wastewater treatment plant and five water treatment plants. This is a uniformed position, and the incumbent will adhere to all uniform and grooming guidelines for the classification. Although the primary reporting location is Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, the position may be required to work at other locations throughout the District as assigned and based on operational need. Incumbent must have a willingness and present ability to operate a sewer pumper truck, drive truck in adverse weather conditions, and navigate pumper truck up steep unpaved/paved mountain roads. Additionally incumbents should be proficient in chainsaw operations.
Training and development assignments may be considered.
This position may work up to 1500 hours in any calendar year.
The work schedule for this position is Tuesday - Friday, 6:00AM - 4:30PM.Training and development assignments may be considered.
This position is designated as not telework eligible.
This position requires a Grade 1 water treatment license (T1) and a Grade 1 water distribution license (D1) due to maintaining sector water systems and will participate in SWRCB Wastewater Operator in Training Program.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
This is a uniformed position, and the employee must comply with all applicable Departmental uniform and grooming standards. Must be able to read and write English, follow instructions, and work independently.
Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

State housing may be required. Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs, or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.
