Job Description and Duties

PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I – MONTEREY DISTRICT / FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT / MONTEREY SECTOR

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The reporting location for this position is located at 2211 Garden Rd., Monterey, CA. This position will work under the supervision of Park Maintenance Chief I.

The Park Maintenance Worker I is assigned to the Monterey Sector maintenance program. The incumbent may be required to work at other locations throughout the district as assigned, based on operational need. Primary responsibilities are facilities and equipment maintenance, with emphasis on repair and maintenance of water distribution systems, sewage systems, resource projects, trail projects, Historical building repairs and electrical systems. The position also participates in daily project planning and administrative duties.

This is a uniformed position, and the employee must abide by all applicable Departmental uniform and grooming standards.


Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Monday to Thursday from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.
