STATE PARK PEACE OFFICER SUPERVISOR I (LIFEGUARD/RANGER) – ORANGE COAST DISTRICT / SOUTH SECTOR
The reporting location for this position is the Orange Coast District - South Sector. This position will work under the direction of the SPPO Supervisor II (Lifeguard).
The Orange Coast District - South Sector is seeking a candidate for a State Park Peace Officer Supervisor (Ranger) position. The position will be responsible for supervising the sector-wide night shift operation on one side of the week. Currently, our Sector is staffed with 108 seasonal lifeguards, 60 park aides, 19 Peace Officers, and a robust camp host staff. Our fleet of patrol vehicles is in outstanding condition and includes SUVs, pick-ups, rescue water crafts, and a Surf Watch rescue boat. Our Sector’s dive team has 8 members, and our junior lifeguard programs serve over 600 kids annually. Our sector is committed to a 4x10’s work week with common Wednesday schedule throughout the entire year. Our special event calendar is filled with surf contests at our premier surf breaks, large scale concerts with well-known headliners, and many more. Opportunities for overtime at these events are abundant.
This Sector consists of 4 busy campgrounds, 3 aquatic operations, and several busy day use areas. The position is responsible for directly supervising SPPOs, park aides, and, in the absence of a Lifeguard Supervisor, the seasonal lifeguard staff. This position will respond to calls for enforcement backup and mutual aid requests. The position will also have a supervisory role in several ongoing youth programs and special events. Proper supervision at the Orange Coast District - South Sector is a most critical need in order to ensure public and employee safety and maximum revenue generation for the District and the Department.
