ASSOCIATE PARK AND RECREATION SPECIALIST – COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DIVISION / OFFICE OF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT / SACRAMENTO
The reporting location for this position is Headquarters in Sacramento, California. This position will work under the Supervision of the Staff Park and Recreation Specialist.
The California Department of Parks and Recreation Headquarter Office in Sacramento will serve as the primary reporting location. The Associate Park and Recreation Specialist (APRS) will work under the supervision of the Staff Park and Rec. Specialist (SPRS) and independently. The assignment will require creating close working relationships with field staff from throughout the Department and communities throughout California. The APRS will develop and implement programs that expand the Department’s services to underserved communities in the urban, suburban, and rural areas of California. This involves work on specific educational, leadership and training programs for adults and youth which will involve collaborative efforts with community leaders and other governmental representatives, as well as in field program delivery. The incumbent will work with the SPRS and independently on assignments creating a working relationship with HQ and field staff from the Department, non-profit organizations, public agencies, and under-served communities statewide. This position will require the APRS to work independently and at times act as lead in the absence of the SPRS. The incumbent will need to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills with Headquarters, District, and field staff, as well as with public contact. The incumbent will be required to prepare monthly and yearly annual reports, presenting reports to Deputy Director and other Executive staff on programs deliverables.
This position is designated as telework eligible - office centered.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Travel will be required. Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application.
