PARK MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT / BIG SUR SECTOR / MONTEREY DISTRICT
This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.
The Park Maintenance Assistant will work under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor and will act as a lead person for seasonal staff performing grounds and housekeeping duties. The primary reporting location is Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park but the position may be required to work at other locations throughout the sector as assigned and based on operational need. Big Sur sector state parks include Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, and Point Sur Light Station State Historic Park and more! This position will assist senior staff with the maintenance and repair of park facilities, historical structures, and equipment throughout the Big Sur sector state parks.
The incumbent's work schedule will be Sunday through Wednesday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is an excellent entry level opportunity to get your foot in the door with California State Parks! You will be joining an established maintenance team and have opportunities to perfect and learn new skills in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, carpentry, and operation of small equipment and tools.
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application. Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.
This position is designated as not telework eligible. Training and Development Assignments may be considered. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
State housing may be required. Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs, or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.
