Job Description and Duties

SENIOR PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / NORTH SECTOR VISITOR SERVICES

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

There are multiple required reporting locations within the North Sector of the San Diego Coast District: 1) South Carlsbad State Beach Campground, 2) San Elijo State Beach Campground and 3) San Diego Coast- North Sector Office. Both positions will work under the supervision of a State Park Peace Officer Supervisor.

The primary duties of the Senior Park Aide (SPA) is to lead lower-level seasonal employees performing routine operation of day use and campground facilities. This position will assist with new employee and volunteer orientations and participate in frequent staff trainings for the new point of sale system. The SPA leads and trains park aides in the entrance station of the campground and collects fees, explains park rules, assists with public information, and operates the point-of-sale system. The SPA is responsible for knowing all revenue generation policies, collecting timesheets for supervisor approval, compiling attendance data in spreadsheets, assisting with scheduling and preparing departmental required reports in an accurate and timely manner. The SPA will be required to operate a state vehicle. The SPA may also assist with pass sales, perform office related tasks, monitor special events and assist with sector operations as needed.

This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
