FORESTRY TECHNICIAN (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) / NORTH COAST REDWOODS DISTRICT/ NATURAL RESOURCES / FORT HUMBOLDT STATE HISTORIC PARK
The reporting location is 3431 Fort Ave Eureka, CA,95503. Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supoervisory) and under the direction of the Watershed and Aquatic Branch Leads, incumbents perform routine technical resource management assignments of average difficulty with an emphasis in watershed resource management to support the District's restoration and natural resources management initiatives. This position serves as a field lead and acts as an intermediary between the Watershed and Aquatic Program leads and seasonal field staff. Incumbents entering State service at this level will support the Burn Team and, in a timely manner, complete the Department's "Basic Fire Fighter" training. Incumbents may receive additional training, as required, to perform their assigned functions. Incumbent will conduct survey and monitoring tasks using assigned protocols and serve as a field lead to seasonal staff. Specific tasks include: meeting and corresponding with the Watershed and Aquatic Program leads and field staff to plan upcoming needs and priorities, communicating with seasonal staff and program leads to maintain field schedules; coordinating and assisting with the collection of field data, QAQC of data forms, and entering data into databases; organizing, preparing, maintaining, and inventorying field equipment necessary to implement assigned field work; assisting with creation and distribution of maps (GIS, Field Maps,and/or Avenza): assisting with updating and distributing data forms to field staff as needed.
This position may work up to 1500 hours per year.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Employee must attend (at employer’s expense) and pass Basic Firefighter training within 12 months of hire and must pass, within 1 month, the fire community's standardized Moderate Pack Test (Requirements: 2-mile walk with 25 lb. pack in 30 minutes. No jogging or running).
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.
