Senior Scientist/Engineer – Water Resources
Location: Round Rock, Texas (Hybrid Work Option)
Compensation: $100,000 - $125,000 annually (negotiable based on experience)
Spheros Environmental is seeking a Senior Scientist/Engineer to join our growing team of hydrogeologists and engineers working to develop and manage groundwater supplies within Texas and Oklahoma. The position will require teamwork to complete field and office-based projects, including applied, quantitative analysis of groundwater or surface water processes; well design, siting, and oversight; water resources reporting, accounting, and permitting; groundwater quality and geochemical investigations; and hydro stratigraphic characterization.
The successful applicant will demonstrate expertise in executing complex technical tasks across diverse assignments, consistently delivering high-quality results. They will be required to oversee work of a small team of staff and manage a portfolio of five to ten projects of varying complexity. They will report directly to the head of the South-Central water resources department. Their efforts will be split between approximately 70% technical work, 20% project and personnel management, and 10% business development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Expertise & Innovation: Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves highly complex technical issues with innovative and effective solutions. Provides technical leadership and stays current on emerging technologies and best practices in hydrogeology and groundwater management. Leads and performs field work, data collection, quality control, and report preparation (including mapping/visualization and regulatory submissions). Develops new tools, ideas, and approaches to enhance technical work and project delivery.
- Project Management & Oversight: Acts as a Project Manager or Project Technical Lead, delivering projects on time, on budget, and within scope. Oversees technical work of other scientists and engineers to ensure deliverables are accurate, high quality, and compliant with safety and company standards.
- Technical Communications: Communicates technical concepts clearly to clients, leadership, and peers; often serves as primary or senior author.
- Business Development & Strategy: Contributes to business development efforts through proposal development and client relationship building.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Supervise early-career staff and guide them through day-to-day operations. Foster a culture of collaboration and ongoing professional development.
- Travel & Field Work: Travels occasionally (<25%) in order to perform site visits or attend client meetings, as needed to support projects and business development efforts.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 10+ years of experience related to water resources or earth sciences. Familiarity with local and regional water development permitting (e.g., TCEQ, GCDs) is preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, hydrology, or a related field. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG), or ability to attain licensure within a reasonable period of time.
- Skills: Strong computer skills and experience with computer programming, quantitative analysis, or numerical modeling. Proficiency in scientific software, Microsoft Office, GIS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Python, MODFLOW, and/or other relevant tools preferred.
- Leadership: Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities with a focus on team development and client satisfaction.
- Other: Valid Driver’s License.
