Position Title: Seasonal Field Site Supervisor I

Reports to: Manager, Corpsmember Development
FLSA Status: Seasonal / Non-Exempt
Term: May 16, 2025 to August 30, 2025
Compensation: $29.50 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45 am-4:15 pm with occasional evening and weekend work
Location: This position is 100% in-person, located at 2650 Senter Road. Some presence may be required at our other location at 1560 Berger Drive.
Travel: Local travel may be required up to 80% of the time.

Position Summary:
The Seasonal Field Site Supervisor I plays a vital role in fulfilling the mission of SJCC+CS by combining leadership, technical expertise, and mentorship to empower young people and enhance our community's natural environment. In this role, you’ll supervise and guide a team of five youth Corpsmembers (ages 16–17) as they engage in impactful environmental and zero waste projects, including landscaping, urban farming, community outreach, and e-waste recycling.
Job Duties:
General
- Supervise and ensure the safety of youth Corpsmembers at all times.
- Oversee and support field projects that may include: landscaping, invasive plant removal, urban farming, community outreach, and e-waste sorting.
- Communicate effectively with project partners.
- Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment among Corpsmembers.
- Model professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic, promoting SJCC+CS’s values and culture.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and organizational policies on job sites.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment, completing required inspections and documentation.
Youth Corpsmember Development
- Be a mentor/role model to Corpsmembers while training them skills in different trades
- Build positive relationships with Corpsmembers and support their personal and professional growth.
- Assist Corpsmembers in setting and achieving their goals.
- Provide constructive feedback and conduct end of program evaluations for the youth Corpsmember.
- Foster accountability and discipline in alignment with SJCC+CS’s standards.
- Train Corpsmembers in work ethics, teamwork, and appropriate professional behavior.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate daily attendance
- Complete evaluations for each Corpsmember at the conclusion of their term.
- Document and address disciplinary actions as needed using Paycom.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of vehicle inspections in Fleetio.
Safety
- Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings and additional safety briefings following incidents.
- Maintain written records of all safety meetings and topics discussed.
- Enforce the consistent use of proper safety gear by Corpsmembers.
- Document and report all accidents or injuries, ensuring proper follow-up.
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
Work Environment & Requirements
Position requires sitting, standing, balancing or walking on uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, reaching overhead and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment, plus the ability to speak and to hear. The ability to lift, carry, push and pull tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds is required. The incumbent in this position works outdoors in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold. In the course of work the incumbent may be exposed to biologic or infectious agents, unpleasant odors, fumes, smoke, dust and air contaminants, and insects. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to use power, vibration, and noise-producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles, work near moving equipment, vehicles or machinery, work on ladders or scaffolding or at heights. The incumbent may be required to use protective clothing, equipment, or devices, and may work near hostile or offensive individuals. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.
Equipment Used: The incumbent of this position will be utilizing various power tools, equipment, and Company vehicles. Vehicles include mainly passenger vans, and occasionally a pickup truck with a trailer or flat bed with the proper training.

Employment At-Will
The San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School is an “At-Will” employer. This means that employment with SJCC+CS is voluntarily entered into and staff members are free to resign at any time. Similarly, SJCC+CS may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or prior notice, as it deems appropriate. This at-will employment relationship can be changed only in a written agreement signed by the staff member and the CEO of SJCC+CS.
**SJCC+CS IS A MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION EMPLOYER**
All new hires will be required to provide proof of vaccination absent an approved medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. If a new hire is in the process of being vaccinated, their start date may be adjusted to a future date after they have been vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means at it has been at least two weeks since the person has completed the entire recommended initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school Diploma or GED.
- 1 year of supervisory experience or equivalent experience that demonstrates the ability to work in team-oriented settings and lead others.
- 1 year of field experience in any of the following: landscaping, trail maintenance and construction, vegetation management, tree maintenance and care, invasive species treatment, habitat restoration.
- Experience operating relevant tools and their corresponding safety equipment, such as chainsaws, weed whackers, and hedgers.
- 1 year of professional experience driving with passengers.
- The ability to solve problems in the field with minimal assistance.
- Strong commitment to improving the quality of life for urban youth.
- The ability to use, and teach others to use, power and hand tools safely.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- First aid/CPR certification.
- The ability to maintain detailed records and documentation.
- Customer Service Experience - able to identify and resolve customer concerns.
- Computer literate.
Driving Record and Requirements: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates must submit a copy of their DMV driver’s record. The candidate also must possess and continue to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Employment Eligibility: Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in the United States. Please be informed that San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School will NOT sponsor, represent, or sign any documents related to visa applications/transfers for H1-B or any other type of visa which requires an employer application.
Medical Verification: State law requires all employees working with youth to provide medical verification of negative tuberculosis test results within the last year. Employees will also be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination. A physical exam may be required for positions that regularly transport passengers.
Background Check and Fingerprinting: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo Live Scan Fingerprinting as well as a background check, which includes a state and federal criminal history record check.
Drug Screen: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo and pass a 5-panel drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bi-lingual (English and any other language).
- Currently enrolled in or already have obtained a degree from an accredited 2 or 4-year College in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Biology, or similar field.
- Possession of any of the following certifications: Wilderness First Responder, OSHA 30 or OSHA Train the Trainer, CPR Instructor, Crosscut Chainsaw
