The Job
- This recruitment is only open to current County of San Bernardino, Fire District, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or intern position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to six (6) months from the end of their assignment.

The Innovation and Technology Department (ITD) is recruiting for a Lead Microwave Equipment and Circuit Repair Technician* to install, maintain, and repair telecommunications and network systems/equipment. Duties include performing preventive and corrective maintenance on high and low capacity microwave radio systems and their related facilities; utilizing specialized test equipment including microwave power meters, frequency standards, spectrum analyzers, circuit test sets (Ethernet and fiber) and computer equipment to validate or adjust system performance and to insure compliance with FCC rules; installing, maintaining, and repairing various types of circuits utilizing IP MPLS L3VPN and L2 VLAN based connectivity architectures; and using computer equipment to interrogate microwave radio system equipment, circuit switching equipment, routers, and related accessory hardware and software to investigate and resolve system performance issues; and installation of maintenance of DC rectification and battery backup systems.

Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.
Working Conditions: Employees are subject to On-Call duties, 24-hour call-back, and may be asked to work during unusual hours, inclement weather, and other adverse circumstances. Duties may include working in confined spaces and climbing ladders to install, inspect, and maintain equipment. Employee must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Travel: Travel throughout the county may be required; employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

- Education: Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed post-high school technical coursework in electronics maintenance, radio communication technology, or AC/DC power systems. A list of related coursework must be submitted with the application.
AND
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience installing, maintaining, and repairing microwave and circuits transport equipment. Desired Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have education in electronics maintenance, radio communication technology, or AC/DC power systems. Experience with carrier class microwave transport, routing, and DC power equipment is highly desirable. Possession of an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL), ETA International Associate Certified Electronics Technician (CETa) certification, or ETA International Microwave Radio Technician (MRT) certification is highly desirable.
