The Job
- The Department of Airports is recruiting for Airport Operations Technician who are responsible for the maintenance and operations of the airport runway system, repair, and maintenance of hangars and tenant buildings, landscape maintenance, facility and building equipment at San Bernardino County Airport Facilities. Incumbents operate and maintain power tools, tractors, and heavy equipment; respond to airport emergencies; and may operate a Unicom radio to provide pilot advisory information such as weather and runway conditions. In addition, incumbents provide technical skills of welding, locksmithing, heating and ventilation maintenance, asphalt repair and minor electrical repairs.The current vacancy exists in Chino Airport. Airports included are Apple Valley, Baker, Barstow-Daggett, Chino, Needles, and Twentynine Palms. The Department of Airports plans and directs the County’s airport and aviation system, as well as the interpretation and implementation of Federal Aviation Administration requirements. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background check, including fingerprinting, pre-employment physical/drug test, and verification of employment history prior to appointment.
Physical: Physical requirements of the position include the following: the ability to frequently lift, carry, push/pull up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Requires the ability to sit, stand, balance, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, turn, climb, twist, crawl, and reach. Requires fine manipulation in both hands. Employees work outside continuously and are exposed to electricity, chemicals, heat, oil, odors, dust, gas, and noise.Travel: Travel throughout the county is required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing transportation.Work Assignment: Employees are subject to 24-hour call back in the event of an emergency and must be able to respond to the airport within 45 minutes. Incumbents may be assigned to different locations depending on departmental needs, and are required to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. The County maintains airports in Apple Valley, Baker, Barstow, Chino, Needles, and Twentynine Palms.

- Experience: One (1) year of full-time equivalent work experience in building construction or building maintenance performing skilled or semi-skilled duties including carpentry, plumbing, construction, or electrical work.
Desired Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will possess experience in concrete, asphalt, roofing, HVAC, framing, welding, electrical and heavy equipment operation.
