The Job
- San Bernardino County is recruiting for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician Trainee who will utilize the Esri GIS platform to create and maintain a wide variety of maps, data and geospatial information products. Under close supervision, incumbents will assist in developing customer map and/or geospatial data product requirements, use Esri’s ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro map production tools to compose and generate a wide variety of geospatial products. Performs quality control on encoded data, reviews output for accuracy and performs quality checks on GIS products.A vacancy currently exists in the Sheriff's Department. The resulting eligible list may be used to fill vacancies throughout the County as they occur.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTPre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment. For the Sheriff's Department, positions require extensive background investigations, including polygraph testing. If you are interested in these departments, indicate your availability on the Supplemental Questionnaire.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Promotion: Trainees must demonstrate successful work performance to qualify for promotion to Geographic Information Systems Technician I ($46,758- $62,753 annually) within twelve (12) months or be terminated.
Sponsorship: SanBernardino County is unable to consider candidates who require Visa Sponsorship
at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal
right to work in the United States.
Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one (1) of the options below in order to qualify.
OPTION 1: Nine (9) semester or fourteen (14) quarter units of completed college coursework in GIS software and theory, geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, cartography, drafting, surveying, or information technology or a closely related field.
OPTION 2:
Six (6) months of experience using GIS software to update geospatial databases. OPTION 3:
Six (6) months of experience serving as a PSE, WEX, or Intern for a San Bernardino County department, performing GIS related duties.
A list of related coursework must be submitted with the application if no degree has been conferred. Selection Process
