Summary

The Fire Mitigation Specialist is responsible for executing wildfire mitigation strategies and programs aligned with the organization’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). This includes implementing comprehensive fire mitigation initiatives and supporting emergency response efforts.

The role serves as a key liaison between the organization and external agencies, contributing to wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities. Additionally, the position integrates fire mitigation strategies into utility operations and infrastructure protection, while collaborating with land management agencies to strengthen wildfire resilience across SRP’s water and power service territories.

What You'll Do

Wildfire Operations

  • Provide 24/7 emergency utility response support during wildfire events while serving as the primary point of contact during fire incidents.
  • Coordinate wildfire response strategies and field operations.
  • Coordinate with land management agencies on prescribed burns and protection projects.
  • Develop and deliver wildfire preparedness training programs.
  • Conduct wildfire risk assessments and integrate mitigation into water and power operations ..
  • Serve as a liaison with federal, state, local, and tribal agencies while maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external first responders and stakeholders.

Wildfire Analytics

  • Analyze wildfire risk data and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain high fire-risk asset lists and system maps.
    Lead development and execution of policies and procedures determined by the Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP).
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to present and discuss the SRP fire mitigation program, including briefings with senior leadership, internal departments, community and industry representatives.
  • Enhance wildfire mitigation efforts by supporting fire behavior modeling, AI camera monitoring, and climatology, by helping design, coordinate, and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Lead the planning and facilitation of annual internal and external stakeholder meetings to assess mitigation strategies, address program challenges, and guide cross-functional business planning across Transmission, Distribution, Water Operations, Engineering, GIS, and Risk Management.

Education

A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • In lieu of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 9 years may be considered.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

  • On-call and emergency response availability.
  • A valid driver’s license required.
  • Field and office work in potentially hazardous environments.
  • Experience working in remote outdoor environments
  • Knowledge of utility operations and infrastructure
  • GIS and GPS proficiency.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
