Summary
Provides technical program leadership, planning, analysis, and execution support for SRP's DER Interconnection Improvements, operating at the intersection of engineering, program development, and strategy. Leads high‑visibility, cross‑functional efforts that modernize interconnection processes, unlock flexibility solutions, and improve customer and stakeholder outcomes. Translates complex engineering concepts into actionable strategies and scalable programs that support SRP's Grid Enablement and Distribution Enablement objectives.
What You'll Do
- Lead cross‑functional initiatives supporting interconnection modernization, DER integration, and Grid Enablement.
- Support the development and execution of SRP's Interconnection Improvements strategic initiative, translating objectives into actionable workstreams, milestones, and deliverables.
- Monitor DER innovation and emerging use cases, and work with internal and external research teams to evaluate technologies to develop safe, efficient interconnection pathways to SRP's grid.
- Review complex DER system designs and grid conditions and lead SRP's Special Review Committee to determine approval requirements on non‑conforming interconnections.
- Facilitate technical discussions on standards, interconnection requirements, and system impacts, ensuring alignment across internal business partners.
- Support customer DER project scoping through post‑commissioning troubleshooting by analyzing system performance and load characteristics to identify issues and coordinate practical, implementable solutions.
- Prepare executive‑level briefings and recommendations and serve as a trusted advisor on DER and interconnection topics.
- Represent SRP on industry committees, working groups, and with vendors or external partners, contributing technical and strategic perspective.
- What it takes to succeed
- Strong technical aptitude across DER technologies, interconnection processes, and power systems to support cross‑functional leadership and decision‑making.
- Ability to synthesize complex technical and economic concepts into clear, actionable insights.
- Analytical mindset with experience evaluating DER economics, value propositions, and program impacts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of executive‑level materials.
- Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical groups within SRP, and represent SRP externally through customer, developer, and vendor engagements.
- Occasional travel to industry organizational functions and SRP facilities.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.
- Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor.
- Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
Education
Additional Requirements and Qualifications
- Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional contacts with customers and outside agencies.
- Contacts with suppliers of equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities.
- Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP.
- Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.)
- Preferred experience in DER, interconnection, or grid modernization environment
- Background in engineering, energy systems, analytics, or related fields.
Testing and Certifications
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
