Important Information
Summary
The basic functions of the Auto Technician are to perform skilled work in the overall maintenance and repair of automotive, construction, and aerial equipment. These include: the maintenance and repair of brake, cooling, electrical, fuel, drive-train, air conditioning, steering, suspension systems, and electrical components. The preventive maintenance and inspections of automotive, construction and aerial equipment. Rebuilding and overhauling engine, hydraulic, drive-train, electrical, brakes, air conditioning, and suspension components. Effectively operating computerized equipment, computers, and associated operating programs (e.g., wheel balancers, diagnostic equipment, mainframe terminals, and programs such as TEMS, MATS, ETC). Performing cutting and welding operations using oxygen/acetylene, electrical arc, and miscellaneous wire feed processes. Perform all inspections necessary to meet SRP, State or Federal requirements.

What You'll Do
- Knowledge required but not limited to:
- All auto-motive, construction, material lifting & personnel lifting equipment & their respective overload protection devices: Mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Rigging for safe & proper handling of equipment. Internal combustion engines. Overhaul & maintenance of drive-train components. Cooling systems used on internal combustion engines. Auto-motive/equipment refrigeration systems. Fuel systems. Proper operation of diagnostic equipment.
- Skills in the proper use of:
- Basic mechanic hand and precision measuring tools. Electric & oxygen/acetylene welding equipment. Electric & hydraulic hoist & overhead jib cranes. Operate equipment for maintenance purposes.
- Ability to:
- Read & apply technical information from text, maps, diagrams, schematics, charts, etc. Follow complex technical procedures. Comprehend Basic math concepts to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, as well as arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals & percentages. Communicates clearly & accurately with others in person, by radio, & in writing. Plan & organize work.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
Education
Experience
Apprentices and Pre-Apprentices will complete the above tasks and duties under the direct supervision of a journeyworker.
Testing and Certifications
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
