Purpose
To assist the Logging and Contract Timber Manager in the implementation and execution of the Roseburg Resources Harvest Plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively Participate in Safety Program
- Learn Division 7 OSHA rules
- Independently work in a forestry setting under close supervision
- Learn how to Plan, Implement and Administer harvest projects
- Actively learn company systems for drawing up logging contracts and log accounting
- Learn company log quality specifications
- Learn internal and local mill log requirements and approximate valuations
- Learn how to administer all aspects of assigned logging jobs:
- Instruct contractors on bucking lengths to ensure maximization of value and proper sorting to correct destinations
- Monitor daily deliveries of logs for quality of manufacturing, quantity and sorting
- Look for opportunities to maximize value on all harvest units
- Prepare logging prospectus’ for bid harvest units for approval and distribution
- Summarize individual bid result information for discussion with Logging Manager
- Ensure all operations meet and exceed Oregon Forest Practices Rules
- Keep appropriate personnel appraised to road maintenance and forestry needs
- Ensure compliance with all fire rules and regulations on harvest operations
- Communicate with adjacent landowners on operations which will affect their property
- Appraise logging rates on scheduled harvest units
- Under close supervision of logging manager, may negotiate logging rates
- Learn how to forecast monthly log flows
- Working knowledge of bureau log scaling rules
- Actively pursuing or possesses LRB qualification with local Forest Protection Association
- Assist in other forest related activities, including forest fire suppression

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in forestry related field or 3 years of experience working in a forest related position
- 1 or more years of relevant experience
- Fundamental knowledge of logging systems and road construction
- A basic understanding of the Oregon Forest Practices Act and in general forest operations
- Working knowledge of GIS, Word Processing and spreadsheet computer programs
- Be safety conscience in all aspects of job
- Physically capable of working productively on steep and adverse terrain in all weather conditions
- Highly organized, self motivated team player that fosters a positive work environment
- Must be a self starter with ability to work independently in a forest environment; with close supervision on unusual or difficult problems
