Purpose
This position is responsible for purchasing logs, cruising & purchasing timber, negotiating logging & hauling contracts, and managing log quality for an assigned set of suppliers. In addition to supporting the Log Procurement Manager with budgeting, forecasting and reporting the individual has direct financial and regulatory compliance responsibility for assigned contracts.
Key Responsibilities

- Identify and negotiate open market log purchases for Roseburg facilities
- Monitor log quality to ensure deliveries meet expectations
- Insure sustainability requirements are met and best management practices are implemented
- Seek out and negotiate contracts for timber purchases, including accurately estimating timber volume and value
- Coordinate and execute logging plan and timber marketing from assigned contract timber units including negotiating logging contract services and harvest supervision
- Collaborate with other Resources staff to leverage efficiency with internal business processes
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, landowners and contract personnel
- Represent company in the Forestry Community and stay informed about regional activities that may impact business
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry or related Natural Resource field, with 2+ years applicable procurement experience
- Self-starter with strong organization skills
- Excellent written, verbal, listening and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving ability
- Determined, safety oriented work ethic
- Knowledge of the timber industry and harvest operations
- Able to implement proper cruising techniques to evaluate timber opportunities
- Must be able to operate effectively in a team environment
- Demonstrated office skills and use of standardized office software
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a safe driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Sustainable forest certifications experience (SFI, FSC, Tree Farm)
- North Carolina Registered Forester
- Basic GIS application proficiency
- LIMS experience
