Department Overview

The coworkers of the Service Planning and Design organization (SP&D) support the business vision by delivering customers safe, reliable, and affordable electric and gas services in compliance with all applicable regulatory and internal requirements through the New Business Process. SP&D stands are to deliver new gas and electric service when customers want us to and we provide an amazing experience to all our customers. SP&D supports both gas and electric operations through its customer project management, design and estimating, dependency, construction, and clerical functions.

Position Summary

The SP&D Sr Manager, Electric Distribution Operations Support role will be focused on the New Business Program that includes externally generated work or work requested by others. Leads a complex organization, comprised of process owners that support the maintenance and construction, restoration and control, customer service delivery, and related staff functions within the Electric Distribution function. Support functions include business performance and process improvement, and business operations and strategy support. The incumbent continually monitors internal and external factors that affect the planning, forecasting and successful execution of the program work and determines, recommends and implements adjustments as needed. Incumbents partner with peer leadership and officers to develop strategies, policies and standards to ensure the achievement of business objectives for a safe, reliable and affordable distribution grid, and promote and adhere to all company and regulatory safety policies, practices and guidelines.

Will lead a Data and Analytics team of coworkers to deliver in the following areas (including but not limited to):
- Developing and setting goals as well as performance reporting for New Business
- Visual Management for New Business Operating Reviews to drive strategic decision making and work execution accountability
- Translation of data into operational findings, trends and recommendations
- Headcount and PCC forecasting, planning, demand analysis and reporting
- Workload planning, work volume planning/forecasting etc vs reporting
- Work execution forecasting, planning, and reporting

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.
- Position will require traveling approximately 1-3 times per month.
- Incumbent should expect travel to Oakland, CA and other locations as needed.
- This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $155,000
Bay Area Mid-point: $210,000
Bay Area Maximum: $265,000

California Minimum: $147,000
California Mid-point: $200,000
California Maximum: $252,000

Job Responsibilities

o Manages capital and expense spending to ensure work identified in the program plan is completed and productivity cost targets are achieved.
o Provides guidance on the development of tools and processes that help the departments efficiently and effectively manage their compliance requirements.
o Presents findings and makes recommendations to high level leaders.
o Develops department long-term direction, operating plans, budgets and performance metrics.
o Develops, oversees, and implements policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards to support business operating plans and goals.
o Represents the company in contacts with other utilities, various industry boards, committees, regulatory agencies, governmental bodies, and other private organizations.
o Ensures effective work & resource planning and scheduling for the service territory, and ensures resources align with budget.
o Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and coaching, and rewards and recognition.
o Reviews current work practices for operational efficiencies and deficiencies.
o Performs field quality reviews (inspections) of employee's work.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in interfacing with regulatory agencies, 2yrs
  • Experience in electric utility, 8 years
  • Leadership experience, 5 years
  • CA Class C License, or equivalent

Desired:

• Job Related tool experience (SQL, Power BI, Power Query, Data Flows, Salesforce, SAP etc.)
• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and (Technical) Competencies
o Strong data analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data trends and findings into actionable operational recommendations.
o Expertise in translating data into operational insights, trends, and recommendations.
o Proficiency in Power BI for dashboard development and data visualization.
o Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP system, Business Warehouse, Power BI Dashboards, SQL Servers etc.
o Competency in knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement
o Competency in interpreting and applying understanding of key financial indicators to make better business decisions
o Competency in making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
o Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences
o Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
o Extensive knowledge of electric utility business operations practices such as maintenance & construction, estimating, design and planning.
o Leadership, coaching and change management skills.
o Analytical problem solving and strategic decision-making ability.
