Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) student engineer for the Orange Media Network at Oregon State University (OSU).

Summary: The Student Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for Orange Media Network’s KBVR TV and Radio operations. The student engineer works with a variety of integrated systems and equipment, and assists with training, troubleshooting and production support.
The Student Engineer employment dates are as follows:
  • Summer: June 12 – Sept. 3, 2026
  • Full Start: September 8, 2026 – June 15, 2027
Pay Rate:
  • Full Start: Average 10-15 hours per week at $16.30 per hour

Position Duties
Responsibilities:
Student Engineer Responsibilities
  • Basic maintenance and repair of audio and video equipment under the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Media
  • Support with technical needs for TV, FM and other multimedia productions, including setup, takedown, operations and technical assistance
  • Basic facility support such as cleaning, equipment storage, and organization
  • Acquire, manipulate, convert and store analog, digital and computer-based audio and video formats
  • Some video or audio editing as needed or as skill allows
  • Participate in Studio clean-up each term
  • Other duties as assigned by the adviser
Communication
  • Respond to emails, messages and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
  • Notify adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur
Collaboration
  • Hold and post regular office hours each week for Orange Media Network, at least half of which should be during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday). Hours may vary during different stages of the term
  • Follow all OMN policies and procedures and hold all staff and volunteers to them as well
  • Act professionally
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of live studio production and field production
  • Knowledgeable of how to create video or audio content
  • Knowledgeable of legal regulations and ethical principles guiding television and video
  • Is organized and reliable
  • Is comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations
