Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Waldbusser LabTech Position for the Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences (OAS) Department at Oregon State University (OSU)

Incumbent will assist on continued support for laboratory and field work associated withfunded research project.

Job responsibilities include:
  • maintaining and cleaning various laboratory and field gear
  • running analytical chemistry instruments
  • processing image and chemistry samples
  • data QA/QC, and general support of the funded research project.
Position Duties
  • 50% Sample archiving and sample processing, including QA/QC
  • 25% Assist in field deployment and sampling of experimental plots on tide flat
  • 25% Cleaning, maintenance and general support of field and laboratory efforts on biological and chemical gear
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Six months of experience in a laboratory setting and two of the following biology,chemistry, or earth science courses which included laboratory work OR An equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience with basic laboratory protocols
  • image and chemical sample handling, and familiarity with environmental chemistry measures, filtration of water samples
  • and exposure to water quality sensors.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Familiarity chemistry in estuarine environments
  • Clean techniques for laboratory glassware cleaning
  • Interests in oyster ecology and physiology, with experience in sampling oysters for shell and tissue weight
