Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Media & Communications Technician for The Marine and Coastal Opportunities (MACO) office at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Marine and Coastal Opportunities (MACO) office is seeking a Media & Communications Technician. This position supports MACO staff on communication and outreach projects, website development and design, and general office tasks. This opportunity reports directly to the MACO Administrative and Communications Coordinator and gives students a chance to gain the experience, knowledge, and skills to develop and produce specific media and outreach products for higher education programs.
Position Duties
75% – Content development on the MACO website
  • creating new webpages
  • maintaining current webpages
  • cataloging photos and other assets for use on the website
  • adhering to OSU branding guidelines and web accessibility regulations
  • Organization of MACO digital media resources
  • Close coordination and consultation with MACO staff and affiliated units.

20% – Assist with outreach events and interact with the public to represent MACO.
  • Create materials as requested.
5% – Assist in office support activities.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • An interest in marine or coastal studies, marine biology, ocean conservation, aquatic biology or ecology, environmental sciences, or a related field.
  • Must be a current undergraduate student at Oregon State University at the time of hire.
  • Must be available over summer term (June 2025- September 2025) for outreach events.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work as a team member and effectively interact with co-workers using a collaborative style.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize projects, and pro-actively seek solutions to challenges and guidance from supervisors
  • Must possess an exceptional eye for detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, or other similar programs and willingness to learn new software as needed.
  • Experience editing images and videos.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the MACO mission and familiar with MACO’s web presence.
  • Experience with Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal web software, or other relevant software products essential for digital media creation.
  • Demonstrated experience in University extracurricular outreach activities
  • Experience in website development and design.
  • Experience working in a professional office environment
  • Familiarity with OSU branding requirements.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Preference will be given to students in an undergraduate academic program at OSU who have a year or more remaining in their degree pathway.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Working Conditions
  • An average of 15-20 hours per week during the academic school year, with the opportunity to increase hours up to 24 hours per week depending on number of needed projects.
  • In-person work on Corvallis campus. Occasional remote work is possible as approved by supervisor and per OSU guidance and policies allowing and guiding remote work for students
  • Hours are Monday through Friday. Work schedule is flexible to accommodate class schedules.
  • Periodic weekend availability may be required.
  • Summer term (June-September) availability for 10-15 hours per week is required, with the opportunity to increase hours up to 20 hours per week depending on number of needed projects.
  • This position has no set end date. The end date depends on the chosen candidate’s eligibility and preference to remain in the job.
  • Starting hourly rate of $14.70
  • Periodic travel to Hatfield Marine Science Center may be required. Travel assistance may be provided if needed.
  • Typical office environment. Part-Time Non-Benefits Eligible.
  • May be required to maneuver up to 25 pounds of weight including boxes of paper, files and/or packages for delivery.
