Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to create a pool of part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant positions for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).

The positions are based out of the on-campus Farm Service Shop. Qualified applicants will be contacted as positions become available. Positions will not include animal care, but are centered around maintenance of animal facilities and ground. Previous farm shop and tractor experience is not required, but is beneficial.
Position Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance at any of the Animal Science facilities. Typical duties include fence repair and building, assist with construction, grounds maintenance, tractor work, and many other maintenance functions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
This position requires the use of a university vehicle to transport supplies and machinery.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Past experience that demonstrates the ability to work as a team
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools
  • Tractor driving experience is beneficial, but not required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Oregon State University and/or dual enrolled with Linn Benton Community College
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Employee may have exposure to noxious odors, chemicals, loud noises, slippery floors and machinery.
  • Employee will be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
  • Employee will need to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Employee will be required to bend, kneel, and stoop.
  • This is not a job for the faint of heart or weak. This job can be very labor-intensive at times.
