The principal engineer – renewable development will provide highly technical engineering services and direct the work of others for the planning, design, and construction of renewable energy projects. Assignments will frequently include all project phases including overseeing and guiding staff in project development and design, resolution of complex engineering problems, design, engineering specifications, scheduling, project accounting (budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and cost control), materials procurement and construction contracts.

BHE Renewables has a rapidly expanding portfolio of renewable energy projects and is seeking candidates to join a new engineering design and project development team located in Phoenix and will support the growing BHE Renewables’ renewable project development team headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa. Employee’s working in the Phoenix office will facilitate engineering design and project management activities for new and emerging renewable energy projects across the country. BHE Renewables is actively recruiting experienced engineering candidates in the following disciplines: • PV solar design and project development • Energy storage system project design and project development • Transmission and substation design engineering • Transmission system planning • SCADA and system protection • Civil, structural and geotechnical engineering

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.

15 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer with experience performing highly technical work of a specialist nature without a professional engineering license or

10 years of experience with a professional engineering license.

Advanced project management skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.


Provide advanced engineering services for the estimating, planning, design, and construction of renewable energy projects. Responsibilities include system planning, design specifications, maps and drawings, materials procurement, contract preparation, project management and project accounting (budgeting, estimating, forecasting).

Conduct advanced engineering studies and complex investigations; prepare oral and written reports of results and recommendations.

Provide advanced engineering assistance to other departments; facilitate internal training classes for engineers and specialists; responsibilities may include developing presentations for senior management and professional/industry groups, authoring technical papers for publication by professional/industry organizations, chairing company committees/task groups, and participating in industry standards committees and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Keep informed of industry issues/technical trends and recommend and implement changes to benefit BHER's business.

Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable development and construction of projects.

Evaluate, select and apply advanced engineering techniques, criteria and procedures; use judgment in making adaptations and modifications.

Recognize, investigate and solve complex and non-reoccurring problems relating to BHER’s project development and construction.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.

Provide timely feedback and information sharing. Exhibit good listening skills and ask questions to improve understanding.
