Basic Purpose
Provides routine technical support to the power generation stations. Improves industrial equipment and system operating reliability, flexibility, and efficiency through the maintenance and improvement of critical electrical equipment. Provides guidance on project cost estimates and economic analysis for the benefit of planning and budgeting departments. Provides mentorship to less experienced team members.

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in engineering and 8 years related experience with a PE license. If no PE license, then 10 years industry experience.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. May require work near moving parts, in outdoor weather conditions, and near extreme heat. Some exposure to loud noises required. Some overnight travel required. Travel and work in Northern and Southern Nevada powerplants required (Ft. Churchill, Valmy, Tracy, Harry Allen, Silverhawk, Chuck Lenzie, Walter Higgins, Clark, Las Vegas Gen stations, etc.)

Depending on qualifications of applicants, this position may be filled at a lower level such as Sr. Engineer, Engineer II or I.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates, implements, and oversees inspection, maintenance, and testing tasks to properly maintain and protect critical power plant electrical equipment, such as:
Transformers

  • Turbine Generators
  • Motors
  • Switchgear and Protective Relays

Guides the development of operating and maintenance standards to improve operating reliability, flexibility, and efficiency of generating facilities.

Responds to equipment failures to understand the problem, determine the best solution, and implement the fix. Provides engineering recommendations to improve the flexibility and resiliency of power plant components and systems.

Drives objectives and goals within the fleet.

Inspects and evaluates generating equipment and process conditions, and prepares forward projections of operating and maintenance requirements to optimize production.

Provides training of operating, maintenance, and engineering staff as needed for power generation fleet.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

Performs related duties as assigned.
