Basic Purpose
Manages and evaluates office processes, revises procedures, and devises alternative methods to improve the scheduling, budgeting and directing for the NV Energy’s Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) program, which includes tree pruning, ROW clearing and subject pole clearances to ensure safe and reliable energy for the electric customers throughout the service area for all Distribution and Transmission voltage class systems. Coordinates logging operations by utilizing effective use of contracted labor and equipment. Demonstrates leadership role for the UVM department when required, providing guidance to other UVM Administrators in various vegetation management practices and strategies to meet departmental goals. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations and performs work on special projects and/or multidisciplinary and interdepartmental projects.

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of work experience in electric utility and vegetation management related field.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Advanced knowledge of electric utility: Transmission and Distribution and Vegetation Management principles and practices. Excellent knowledgeable of federal regulating agencies such as FERC and NERC guidelines and standards governing transmission lines; and a working knowledge of OSHA rules and standard electric utility practices. Understanding of RFP, contract bid specification, and program status reports. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of internal and external customers. Effective planning, time management, decision making, presentation, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Certifications and/or Qualifications
International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist and Certified ISA Utility Specialist, or similar relevant industry certifications/qualifications for wildfire management, forestry management, or rangeland management.

Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software including mapping and GPS software.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office and field environment when visiting crews and worksites. No special physical demands required. Occasional travel required.

NOTE:
Depending on qualifications of applicants, this position may be filled at a lower level than that which is posted such as Vegetation Management Administrator.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works on multiple tasks simultaneously applying analytical and technical skills to accomplish major accountabilities and ensures the efficient and successful completion of a coordinated UVM program within the established preventive maintenance plan:
    • Develops and maintains a Right-of-Way maintenance schedule to address system and mandated clearance requirements for safe and reliable service operation and wildfire risk reduction.
    • Maintains current with UVM related Federal and State regulatory mandates ensuring NVE's compliance by developing, overseeing, and implementation of UVM guidelines and documented practices.
    • Administers Vegetation Management contracts, coordinates work amongst contractors, and partners closely with outside agencies to accomplish wildfire risk mitigation and community goals.
    • Drafts requests for proposals and contract terms for UVM related contracts and administers these contracts by holding contractors responsible in fulfilling their commitments.
    • Conducts field audit of vegetation management contractors and verifies work performed is completed to specification and quality standards.
    • Establishes good communication channels with district operation’s manager/supervisor levels.
    • Educates company’s employees and the public about utility vegetation management and its’ benefits.
    • Maintains records of work performed, verify vendor invoices for accuracy, and manages workload to stay within budget parameters.
    • Leads projects and/or provides work direction and technical assistance to less experienced Administrators. May provide supervision, training and development, as needed.
